Bespoke luxury safaris through Tanzania's greatest wilderness — designed by those who were born into it.
Duma Private Safaris was founded by someone who knows Tanzania not as a destination, but as home. Born and raised on this soil, educated abroad, and drawn irresistibly back — our founder returned with fresh eyes and a clear conviction: the world's greatest safari destination was being shown to the world by people who had never truly lived it.
That gap — between what Tanzania is and what most visitors are shown — is why Duma Private Safaris exists. We do not sell packages. We design journeys, one guest at a time, shaped around your curiosity, your pace, and your deepest sense of wonder.
"Africa's potency lies in the sum of its small, invisible moments."
Serengeti, TanzaniaWe design three distinct approaches to the Tanzanian wilderness — each private, each unscripted, each shaped by the land itself.
Our finest itineraries, refined over years of intimate knowledge — now reserved exclusively for your private group.

From the spice markets of Zanzibar to the summit of Kilimanjaro — extend your journey into Tanzania's other worlds.
See ExtensionsFrom the endless plains of the Serengeti to the ancient caldera of Ngorongoro, from the remote wilderness of Ruaha to the coral reefs of Pemba — we know these places not as points on a map, but as living, breathing worlds.
"The real Tanzania is not found in the most lavish lodges or the longest list of sightings. Its potency lies in the small, invisible moments — the first light breaking over the Serengeti, the silence before a lion moves."
Founder · Duma Private Safaris
Our founder grew up in Tanzania. We share our home, we do not sell a destination.
Every safari is reserved exclusively for your group. No shared vehicles, no strangers at dinner.
Tanzania-born naturalists who speak the language of the land — and those who walk it.
One dedicated point of contact from first enquiry to farewell — managing every last detail.
I have travelled to Africa many times. I have never felt the continent like this. Duma gave us something we could not have found ourselves — the real Tanzania, all of it.
From the moment we landed in Arusha, every single detail had been attended to. The guides. The camps. The silence of Ruaha at dawn. This is what luxury travel should feel like.
Our children still talk about it. Not the animals — the people. The guides who became friends. The cook who made us feel like family. Duma understood that we wanted to connect, not just observe.
There are many ways to see Tanzania. There are few ways to truly know it. Duma Private Safaris exists at the intersection of local knowledge, uncompromising standards, and a genuine love for this extraordinary country.
Share your name and we will reach out to begin the conversation. No fixed packages. No obligations. Just an honest discussion about the journey you have always imagined.

Every safari we design is private, bespoke, and shaped entirely around you — not a catalogue, not a package, not a group departure.
We do not believe in departures. We believe in arrivals — the moment a guest steps off a plane in Arusha and into a journey that has been designed specifically for them, around their interests, their pace, and their idea of the extraordinary.
Every camp we recommend we have visited. Every guide we employ grew up in the country they navigate. Every itinerary is built fresh — nothing is pulled from a template.

We know these destinations not as points on a map, but as living, breathing worlds — each one different, each one irreplaceable.
The Serengeti is not merely Tanzania's most celebrated park — it is one of the world's last truly wild places. The annual migration of more than a million wildebeest across its endless plains is the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth, a drama that has played out for millennia and shows no sign of wearying. Yet the Serengeti is far more than its migration. It is a place of extraordinary predator density, of lions that live in extended families of twenty or more, of cheetahs that sprint across the kopjes at dawn, of leopards that drape themselves over fever trees in the long afternoon light.
Plan a Serengeti SafariThe Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest intact volcanic caldera — a vast, collapsed bowl of ancient geology that cradles one of Africa's most remarkable concentrations of wildlife. Some 25,000 large animals inhabit its 260 square kilometres, including the rare black rhinoceros, prides of lion, vast herds of wildebeest, zebra, and buffalo, and the elegant crowned cranes that wade through the soda lake at its heart. Descending into the crater at dawn, the mist still filling the valley floor, is one of those moments that recalibrates the meaning of awe.
Plan a Ngorongoro Safari
Tarangire is the Africa of ancient baobabs and thronging elephant herds — a park that has been somewhat overshadowed by its more famous northern neighbours, and is all the better for it. During the dry season, the Tarangire River becomes a lifeline for some of Africa's largest elephant concentrations, with herds of 200 or more gathering at the water's edge while the baobabs stand sentinel overhead, some of them older than human memory. Tarangire also harbours the rare fringe-eared oryx and the stately gerenuk, and its bird life is, quite simply, exceptional.
Plan a Tarangire Safari
Tanzania's largest national park, and one of its least visited — which is exactly the point. Ruaha's vast baobab-studded plains harbour Africa's largest population of wild dogs, extraordinary lion prides, and a wilderness that feels genuinely remote. For the traveller who has seen the north and seeks something deeper, Ruaha is the answer.
Plan Your Visit →
Africa's largest protected area. The Rufiji River system weaves through a labyrinth of channels, lakes and forest — a landscape uniquely suited to boat safaris and walking with experienced trackers. Nyerere offers a different rhythm: slower, more intimate, profoundly immersive.
Plan Your Visit →
Stone Town's labyrinthine streets. Spice tours through plantations heavy with clove and cardamom. The white arc of the north coast at Nungwi. The turquoise shallows of the east coast at low tide. Zanzibar is the perfect final act to any Tanzania safari — a place to exhale, to swim, to eat extraordinarily well by the Indian Ocean.
Add Zanzibar →
If Zanzibar is Tanzania's celebrated island, Pemba is its secret. Covered in clove plantations, fringed by diving reefs of world-class calibre, and almost entirely untroubled by mass tourism — Pemba is where discerning travellers come when they truly wish to disappear.

Begin the ConversationWe are not the oldest safari company in Tanzania. We may become the finest.
Duma Private Safaris was founded by someone who knows Tanzania not as a destination, but as home. Born and raised on this remarkable soil — in the shadow of Kilimanjaro, with the Serengeti in the school atlas — our founder grew up understanding this country in the way only those raised within it can.
An education abroad brought new perspective. Exposure to how the world's great travel companies operated — their standards, their language, their obsession with the guest experience — brought clarity. And a return to Tanzania brought purpose.
"I came back and saw that the world's greatest safari destination was being shown to the world by people who had never truly lived it. That gap — between what Tanzania is and what most visitors are shown — is why Duma Private Safaris exists."
Duma is the Swahili word for cheetah — the fastest, most focused predator on the African plains. It is a name chosen for its precision. We do not cover everything. We cover Tanzania, completely, with focus and with pride.

Every decision we make is informed by a love for Tanzania that cannot be acquired — only inherited. We share our home. We do not sell a destination.
Every vehicle, every camp, every meal — reserved exclusively for your group. We do not combine strangers. We do not operate departures. We design journeys.
The greatest luxury on any safari is not the lodge. It is the person beside you in the vehicle — their knowledge, their curiosity, their ability to read a landscape. We employ Tanzania's finest.
Your Safari Director manages everything. You will never be passed from department to department. One person. Always available. Knowing your name and your preferences.
Tanzania's wilderness is our livelihood and our responsibility. A portion of every safari supports local conservation and the communities who live alongside the wildlife.
We visit every camp we recommend. We drive every road we put guests on. We eat the food. We sleep in the tents. Only then do we say yes.
Tell us what you are dreaming of. We will take it from there.
We do not believe in booking forms, package lists, or pressure. We believe in listening — to what you want, what you value, what you are hoping to feel. Tell us, and we will design something worthy of your time.
We respond within 24 hours. No obligations, no pressure — just a conversation about the safari you have always imagined.
